What is Insights and who is it for?

Insights in an educational programme for women who are, or who have, experienced domestic abuse.  This programme will focus on the woman and her ability to make important life changes.  It's aim is to help the woman understand the problem of abuse and it's realities for the entire family.  It will also help the woman identify life-long patterns of abuse, help her set realistic goals and learn new techniques towards self-determined change.

How can someone join the Programme?

An informal interview with the course facilitators is required to ascertain the woman's suitablitiy and readiness to undertake this kind of programme.  This will also provide an opportunity for her to discuss her needs in person.

What will the Programme cover?
  • Introduction and induction to the programme.
  • Giving ourselves gifts.
  • Definining domestic abuse.
  • Family roles and abuse.
  • Boundary setting.
  • Breaking old patterns.
  • About feelings, grief, fear, guilt and anger.
  • Stress management.
  • Assertiveness training.
  • Goal setting.
  • Developing healthy relationships.
  • Endings and new beginnings.
Where and when will the course take place?
The course will run for 3 hours, once a week for twelve weeks.  It will run twice yearly in Ennis.
