Mission Statement

Clare Haven Services Ltd. is committed to promoting the right of women and children to live and grow in a peaceful, non-violent home environment and to assist those experiencing domestic abuse to control their choices and their lives.

Clare Haven Services aims to achieve this by providing information, support and services to women in abusive relationships of any kind through an integrated, coordinated, community-based response to domestic abuse and by working towards long-term prevention of domestic abuse.

Our services are available to all women and their children regardless of racial or ethnic origin, age, religion, sexual orientation, or other forms of social differential.

History

Clare Haven Services is a voluntary organisation set up in 1993 to provide support, information and refuge accommodation to women and their children who are being abused in their own homes.

Clare Haven was set up by two women, Mary and Colette, who through their experiences recognised the need for a support agency, emergency accommodation and a more holistic approach to helping women and children experiencing domestic abuse in County Clare. At this time if a woman living in County Clare needed a safe place, she not only had to leave her home but the county also. Starting off with a donation from a friend Mary and Colette founded Clare Haven House. The demand for the service was so great, that Clare Haven quickly grew and with the help and support of many statutory agencies and voluntary and community groups, we were finally able to open our own refuge in 2002.

The refuge (click here) can accommodate up to six families and we also have two transitional houses where women and their families can move to from the refuge, before they are re-housed. Clare Haven Services also has a drop-in centre in Ennis and provides outreach clinics around the county for women in rural areas to access our service (click here for information).
